"When the lights go down in the city
And the sun shines on the bay
I want to be there in my city..."
by Journey
Living close to the city by the bay I had of course collected a few images of San Francisco over the years, but never really took the time to go to San Francisco just to take pictures.
Since San Francisco's weather is rather unpredictable and very foggy in summer, now in fall, the weather is a bit more stable and even really sunny. Time to go and do some shooting, my friend Cherie and I thought and dedicated a day this last week to do exactly that.
With Journey's song and a plan of action in mind we spent a fabulous day in the city.
The following images follow the route we took, complemented by images from former visits.
Not much writing this time, so turn on your favorite San Francisco tune and enjoy !
Coit Tower
with it's great murals
and fantastic views over the city
Saints Peter&Paul Church
Looking over Columbus' shoulder at Alcatraz
San Francisco's "crookedest" Lombard Street
View from Lombard Street towards the Coit Tower
Cable Car rolling down Taylor Street
The Hornblower and historic streetcars
The Ferry Building Marketplace
...with all it's goodies
The all new Academy of Science
and it's most famous resident: Claude, the albino alligator
The Conservatory of Flowers
I still have to master the perfect shot here, at the "Painted Ladies", my goal being to capture the skyline in the background
AND the nice evening twilight...without the fog
The Palace of Fine Arts at night
and "The Thinker" at the Legion of Honors
Twilight Bay Bridge and Skyline, seen from Treasure Island
Suspension Bridge spanning over the "Golden Gate", the opening of the Bay into the ocean ...
